...and union people voted this down by an overwhelming amount (I've heard 91-92%!). Ron Get-a-finger is pushing union members to pass this as it preserves jobs with product guarantees for several vehicle assembly plants Opponents claim too many concessions are given up and it limits the worker's rights to strike. Get-a-finger claims that is incorrect, and that workers can strike on every issue EXCEPT improvements in wages and benefits...and it a dispute comes up over wages/benefit increases it would go to binding arbitration. Workers must not believe this because they're giving Ron the finger with an overwhelming defeat with the recent union vote at Kansas City. Two more weeks to go.

If you select the “source” link and read the entire story, you’ll find out this appears to be the “brain-child” of Bob Putz (uh, I mean Lutz). You know, the guy that sold Chrysler out, then took the job with GM offered by the then CEO Rick Wa-goner to add the “passion” to the cars under development (still haven’t see anything out of the gate that didn’t look cheap, including the instrument panel of the vaulted 2010 Camaro). Today, Bob Putz (uh, Lutz) is now a Marketing guy. Oh come on – who’s the donkey that made that decision?

This is a crummy marketing idea that will produce less-than-stellar results.

- Bob says: “worked in the UK” many years ago with Vauxhall.
* Writer says: Bob, wake up. This is 2009 not many years ago – many things have changed. First, the UK folks many years ago (bless their souls & God save the Queen) were much more proper then than their U.S. descendants are today, and they like free-bees and they’ll be more apt to take advantage of the situation, abuse the intent, and milk the deal.

- Bob says: expect only 2-3% of buyers to return vehicles for refunds, similar to the Vauxhall episode.
* Writer says: Bob, read the above point and you will realize you need to add at least 5% to the above numbers…especially when you can get something for “free”.

- Bob says: “There is a certain amount of risk. So what? Doing nothing is not an option.”
* Writer says: So Bob, are you willing to take the risk to further depreciate the value of the GM stock as a strategy to make more riches selling it to another competitor? Oh, that’s right, you’re on my taxpayer dime. Take all the silly chances you think the government is willing to pay for with my money. No personal risk for you, is there?

- Bob says: “If you do the comparison and a Toyota Camry meets your needs better than a Chevrolet Malibu, hey, help yourself”.
* Writer says: Bob, have you ever driven or had a ride in a Malibu? I have when recently renting from Enterprise. You get what you pay for and that is one of your lower-cost models in a standard size and it performs like it. Low cost, and needs much improvement. I’d take another American-owned brand vehicle…not a Toy-toy-toy-ota.

Bob – Michigan has a multitude of good college and great university establishments that can train individuals to effectively create, plan, and manage a profitable, major marketing campaign such as one GM appears to be in need of. I suggest you enroll and start taking classes today. Based on your current performance you’re earning a D-minus. Class dismissed.
